In 2022, Roofings Group partnered with Kyaninga Child Development Centre (KCDC) to manufacture all-terrain wheelchairs using bamboo sourced from sustainably managed forests. This initiative aims to provide mobility solutions for children with disabilities while promoting sustainable practices. Wheelchairs are specifically designed to navigate rough terrain, offering both durability and ease of maintenance, making them ideal for diverse environments.
Roofings contributed to building the workshops, purchasing tools and machinery to support the project. With a target of producing over 1,000 wheelchairs annually, this partnership addresses a critical accessibility gap.
We are proud to announce that the first 15 wheelchairs have been donated. Ten were distributed at the workshop in Fort Portal, and five were handed over by Rt Hon. Rukia Nakadama Isanga, Third Deputy Prime Minister and Minister without Portfolio at the recent Community Based Rehabilitation Conference in Entebbe, which Roofings also sponsored. The conference aimed at strengthening the promotion of disability rights and inclusive development initiatives across Africa.
This initiative reflects Roofings Group’s commitment to sustainability and inclusive community support, ensuring that children with disabilities gain the mobility and independence they deserve.
